Today, Super Bowl Sunday, we took the morning before the game to build a new whelping box for the pups. The pups are now 4 weeks old and need more room to run around we decided to go with an 8' x 8' area. We have two heaters and another heat lamp to give them any heat they need during the night. We are lucky in that California is not too cold right now compared to the rest of the states, so moving their box out of the house and into the garage area worked really well. We have some new toys in the box as well. They learn very quickly what a tennis ball can do and how to make it move. Very interesting and funny to see.
We are beginning to ween the puppies as well. We have started off with some good quality puppy food and created a gruel for them. They IMMEDIATELY took to it and it seemed like they have been on dog food this whole time. There seemed to be no trial basis or even any concern, it was just time to eat!
