Litter status
Quick note:
This weekend marked the pups 8th week! Time goes so fast!
As of today we only have females available. Our litter was definitely female heavy, in fact we had an 3:1 ratio. If your interested in one of our beautiful companion females let us know. See the "Current Litter" tab to see the pups. We should have more puppy pictures up this week.

Day 50 - A few quick action shots
Yesterday, we took a few pics of the pups running around and playing. Was going to upload them last night but got tired. Quite the site to see 7-8 puppies playing keep away with each other with a chew/pull rope. They move so quickly that some pictures came out blurry, so here are a few that did come out.

Day 48 - Sunday photos of the litter
New Photos!
Today we took the pups out to play in the grass and run around a bit in the sun. We took some pics of the puppies stacked and a few others just them facing the camera. Some of the puppies were into it but when they see their brothers and sisters having fun running around in front of them they aren't as cooperative. On top of that having puppies pull your leg while trying to take pictures isn't that great either, haha. We did manage at least one shot of each pup, so click on the "Current Litter" tab and check them out.

Day 45 - Trip to the vet, first shots
Today we went to the vet for the pups 2nd check-up, first shots, worming, weighing, etc. Quite a feat with this number of puppies. A lot more work than we thought. Keeping everything in order, making sure each pup only gets one dose of everything and recording the info. On top of that the Vet was very behind and we had an hour wait in the lobby. The pups did really well and didn't see to mind. We had a large crate that we used to transport them and keep them together. We planned to take more photos, but that wasn't in the cards once we got there and had to unload, reload, unload, reload, record keep, help the vet assistant, make sure pups were being taken care of and not mishandled, etc.
We did manage 1 photo of Orange & White puppy on the scale. We also took another pic after we got back home. You'll notice in the 2nd pic that Fawn girl & Yellow girl are looking right at the camera... they are both very curious and brave, Yellow girl is always the first to investigate things and is always front and center. I like her a lot and we are really happy with what we have through the whole litter. I am excited to see how they grow up. You can see a few photos below from yesterday:

Day 43: 6 weeks old
Today we added some pictures of the puppies excursion outside... we have been taking them out longer and longer, as weather permits, to acclimate them to the "outside" world. Today as we cleaned the whelping box area we moved it outside to the lawn area and let them play, sniff and roll around in the cool grass. The California sun was shining and it was warm enough for them to play for a while. Here are a few pictures:

Day 36: Standing & Stacking
The pups are eating gruel, drinking lots of water and weening more and more each day. We have added more toys and what seems to be their favorite - a small plastic skateboard ramp. The ramp only goes about 5-6 inches off the ground and many of them like to be on top and survey the area. Some even attempt to do a baby jump off. As in everything else, some are more bolder than others. A pull toy and squeaky toy was added and also a big hit. They have tennis balls and other items as well. Each puppy seems to have their favorite. Still the most bold are Yellow, Green, Blue and Red.
Today we took some new photos of the pups at 5 weeks old. They all did pretty good. A few were a little uneasy about it but quickly figured out it was easy. The most natural poser award goes to Red girl. She seems to be a pleaser by nature. She stood and stacked effortlessly and seems to quite like it. Almost like she was born to do it. We were surprised how easy it was for her.

Day 28 - A bigger whelping box & weening
New, larger, whelping box |
Day 1 of puppy food |
Day 1 of puppy food |
We are beginning to ween the puppies as well. We have started off with some good quality puppy food and created a gruel for them. They IMMEDIATELY took to it and it seemed like they have been on dog food this whole time. There seemed to be no trial basis or even any concern, it was just time to eat!

Day 24 - Baby Teeth
Today we added another quick video we took this morning of the pups at 3 weeks and 3 days old. They are very mobile now and quite lively. They are hearing and seeing very well. They can stand up and try to suckle from Vegas as she stands around them. They are playing with each other more and more each day and beginning to roll around with each other, pull each others ears, etc. Their teeth are about to pop out any day. In a few cases some of the pups are are showing a few of their baby teeth. I would imagine by this weekend or Monday at the latest most of the teeth should have dropped through their gums. Starting next Monday we will incorporate puppy gruel. We will being to introduce water as secondary source of intake for them tomorrow.
The biggest right now are Light Pink, Purple Puppy, Green Boy, Blue Boy, Pink/Blue Puppy and Red Puppy. The most daring and curious pup seems to be Yellow Girl. She is quite curious, strong and confident... seems to be exhibiting working potential, time will tell.
Tonight we will add new puppy photos we took of each pup. Nothing to fancy yet, but the pics will continue to show their development. See the new photos in the "Current Litter" section.

Day 17 - I am puppy, hear me roar!
Above is a very short clip we took this evening of the puppies as they raced to try to get their ration from their momma Vegas.
The litter is now 2 weeks and 3 days old. The pups are certainly taking on their own personalities. We are hearing more baby barks and little growls as they are beginning to be very playful and starting to play fight. It is fun to watch at they are becoming more and more active as the days go by. We will begin to introduce small toys and balls. They're all very much engrossed in our daily lives and are not sheltered from sights and sounds. Our goal is to socialize and incorporate the human element of their life, consistently, throughout their beginning stages of "puppyhood."
The litter has a consistent size and development, save for two smaller ones that are catching up rapidly. The two largest right now are Purple and Green, while the others are very very close behind. For instance, Red puppy started out as being the smallest and is now in the top third in terms of size. I expect many more changes in development as they mature in the coming weeks. Green puppy (largest boy right now) is probably the strongest of the litter... it can be easily felt simply by picking him up and feeling his girth and muscle tone.
Here are few photographs from tonight. You can click on any to enlarge:

Day 13 - New Puppy Photos!
Just added a picture of each puppy to the "Current Litter" section of the site. The pups are a day short of 2 weeks old and walking, not very well, but walking nonetheless. Some are more agile than others. Seems as though the lighter ones are quick on their feet and the heavier ones are still clumsy, much like humans!
All the pups have their eyes open now. Some are still adjusting and squint, while others are fully open.
The pictures aren't the best as the pups aren't the best posers for pictures at this age. However, we were able to capture a shot of each one. Hope you like them.

Day 11 - Eyes & Feet
I’ll call this post “Eyes & Feet” … as of Day 8 & 9 we started to get a few little peeks of the pups’ eyes. For the most part it was just a smidge of an opening, but as time went on more and more began to show. Orange Puppy & Purple/Blue both had eyes fully open at Day 10. The slowest right now is Purple puppy, which is the biggest and least mobile at the moment. She is a beast and isn’t quite as agile as the others. She’s big enough that she just bulldozes to where she wants to go.
A lot of the people got their feet under them at about Day 9 & 10. The most agile right now is Red Puppy, Orange, and Orange & White…. Blue boy isn’t too shabby either. It’s remarkable to think that just a few days ago they were crawling and a day later they are up on all 4′s stumbling around. It’s pretty funny because when they tip over to far one way it turns into a full roll.
The pups are growing like weeds and they are eating more and more. Can’t wait until Vegas gets a good break when they start eating dry/wet food. Vegas is really attentive to them… if they cry she wants to know why. She constantly grooms them and cleans up after them. Hard job with 12 babies running around.
We are getting the first hints of puppy play. Some of the pups are actually incorporating something other than sleep and eating in their schedules. A few have begun to play with each other and nibble on each others ears. It’s pretty neat to watch their development. The whelping box we made is holding up well, but we may need to make it bigger or move the operation into the kennel or garage area when they are a bit older. That will necessitate a good heating system for them. That is something to think about for a few weeks down the road.

Here is a quick video of the pups we thought we'd share. We will add more as the days go by.

Day 4 - The day after cropping
Day after cropping |
Day after cropping |
Turns out that they didn’t like to have their tail cropped as much as we like it. The day they had the crops and continuing into the next day, they were pretty sensitive and whined a bit more than normal. This dissipated more and more as time went on through the day and evening. Some really acted like nothing happened. It was quite the experience at the Vet's office. The Vet was pretty nice and allowed us to be in the surgical room at the time of the crop and dewclaws removal.
Only one puppy seemed to be upset by the whole ordeal. Orange puppy took a bit longer than the rest of the litter in terms of recovery time, but after a day or so he was right back to normal. Nothing that a bit more milk and a good sleep didn’t solve.

Day 3 - A trip to the Vet
This day we headed out to the Vet’s office to get tail cropping and dew claws removed. Rounding up 12 pups to head to the Vet is not that easy. Vegas isn’t too happy that her pups are away and the pups aren’t too happy about being away from momma. We took special care to make sure that they were all fed and had fully bellies for the extended trip. We also made sure to have multiple blankets to keep the pups warm during transition. We had hoped to get out and back within an hour, but that proved too ambitious. In the end it took 2 hours. Turns out that the Vet was pretty good and took his time with the crops and dew claw removals. He also stitched each tail after docking. Turned out to be a successful trip!

Day 1 - Vegas has given birth to 12 Cane Corso Pups!
A dozen puppies! |
Day 1:
What a day! Vegas decided to deliver in the middle of the night. Starting with heavy panting the breaking of her water bag late on Saturday Jan 8th, we finally finished up at around noon on Jan 9, 2010. We had 12 healthy, beautiful and hungry puppies. Her delivery of the pups came pretty fast for the first 5-6 pups… then it dragged on. She even had one large break of 4.5 hours! Just when we thought we were done another pup would come, and then another, and then another. All told we had a dozen Cane Corso pups ready to discover the world and very very ready to eat! 9 females and 3 males. We have color coded each pup to chart their growth, development and personality.
We will offer the pups to good, responsible, loving homes. Our intent is to keep the pups in California so we could see how they develop. However, we are open to shipping to the right people. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
